Giving Away Your Business
Business Growth Right Under Your Nose
Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you push, your business is acting stagnant to your changes? That you literally cannot not give away your products or services? While there is often little truth in that feeling, that feeling is very real none the less. It’s when you get to this point that you begin to question and reanalyze your approach. A poor man’s thinking will not see the fruit of the freebie. If you have a product or service and feel that you’ve reached everyone you can through all your available channels or that you’ve reached saturation within your market, you can become paralyzed in thoughts of escaping the hole that you may feel you’re in. This is the time to consider rethinking the giveaway. While the numbers suggest that you’re losing income every time you give away your product/service for free, in actuality, your business is growing.
When you are in the market with a product, the number 1 priority for you is to create customer interaction with your product. An example to consider would be Super Mario Brothers. Imagine it’s the late 80’s and video games are still in their infancy. I just experienced the most awesome game in the world and went on to explain the actions of jumping on turtles and picking up mushrooms to grow and picking coins out of mid-air. Unless you knew me very well (and shared my interests), you would probably not be moved to try this new game out. However, if you were hanging with a friend and they pulled the game out and started playing with you right there on the spot, you would jump to a completely different conclusion of Super Mario Brothers. The experience is what makes the difference with the impression.
When your offer services, the experience is even more valuable. A great example here is everyone’s favorite subject… TAXES! As an individual with a typical job and with a degree in Finance, I felt more than capable of handling my tax returns every year. However, as my investments grew and I switched from an employee to an employer, my tax situation began to grow complicated. I broke down and hired an accountant. While I am quite capable of doing my own taxes, I had to consider the absurd amount of time I would have to spend in order to minimize my tax liabilities. The amount of time and effort that I would put into this would not come close to paying for itself through tax benefits (Of course, I’m not an 8-figure annual income either). All that being said, I found an accountant through Social Media and for my effort, found a check-in special that gave me a 15% discount to try his services. Again, through the experience I can tell you that I won’t be doing my own taxes anymore due to the positive association I’ve had with allowing someone else to handle it.
So back to the subject at hand. Where is the value of giving away your valuable product or very precious intellect? Whether your company sells products or services, it is the experience that your commodity offers that is the ultimate seller of your goods. When you feel like you have no more reach and/or growth, go find some worthy and preferably targeted individuals who you feel will greatly benefit from your product/service. You have the opportunity to begin filling voids that were unknown and equally spreading the most valuable form of marketing available to any of us; positive word of mouth.
Remember this the next time you feel nothing you do is working… If you want immediate effects within your business growth, give it away!
