Social Media and Branding

By Brandon Mullins · Published May 29, 2013 · 1 min read

Branding is something all Social Media agencies should take into account as they pick up new clients. Whether that client be a matured business with a well established brand or a start up with no brand at all. The future success of any business is directly linked to active branding. Examples are plentiful. For our purposes, we’ll look at Tide laundry detergent. Their base product, Tide detergent, is more expensive than the majority of detergents, yet they hold nearly 50% of the market share. That shows you what is possible with correct branding

In another direction, Tide just launched, Tide Pods. A single use, pre-measured laundry tab that you can mindlessly throw in the laundry without any thought. The single use detergent is not original to Tide, as they have a number of competitors in the single use category. However, with the Tide brand name attached to their Pods, they own approximately 75% of the single use category. Another notch in the belt of terrific branding on the part of Procter and Gamble. With the new advent of Social Media, everyone has the ability to do the things that have been limited to large dollar promoters in the past. Social Media allows you to professionally brand your products at a fraction of the cost of traditional media.
